For some reason I had never fished the Ochlocknee River until yesterday. I put in at Ochlocknee River State Park near Sopchoppy and fished upstream from there. I am not normally a big fan of river fishing, but yesterday may have changed my mind.
The ramp is a double with a low curb down the middle. That didn't stop some guy in a Boston Whaler from straddling the divider and taking up the whole ramp when I got back and wanted to load. I had a good time while waiting for him though visiting with his guests from Scotland who had never seen a bassboat before and were mesmerized by the foot-controlled trolling motor.
The dock is very small and is so high off the water that it is nearly unusable at low tide. The low tide was a -0.3 at noon so I was fishing on a falling tide all day long.
I fished from daylight until about noon and caught 10 bass, none more than 2 pounds. Most of them came on a black or junebug Trick Worm on a black shakey head. I also caught two on a spinnerbait. Both of them were hooked by the trailer hook. I caught one on a Texas rigged watermelon red Meat Stix (a very good Senko knockoff), and one on a Chatterbait.
Other than the Boston Whaler at the ramp I only saw one other boat the whole morning.
