    Re: Crooked Lake (fishmastermike1)

Havent been out there lately, but it's a normally deep lake, so if you can get the boat launched, you should be able to find some decent water to fish!

One other thing, be careful if you decide to head in to the southern "lobe".. When the water was still up some, it was only 1.5-2' deep in the pass.. Unless they've had some rain in the lake, it may be dangerously shallow in that area.. Heading into the northern lobe should be ok as long as you stay in the middle of the pass..

Dont forget to take some pix if you catch anything good!! Tight Lines.

Depends on which Crooked Lake you are talking about Mike..... I think Mick may have been talking about the one up this way..... If you mean the one south of Lake Wales then I doubt that the pass going to the southern end is shallow.... I haven't been there in a long time now.... but I always like the southern end over towards 27.... and the area right out from the cove at Bob's Landing is pretty nice if you bear to the left coming out....... I've caught some quality fish along that area.

Im talking about the one with Bob's Landing and Hillcrest Lodge.. I remember seeing another crooked lake on the map, but it's alot smaller I think.. Isnt it east of lake Eustis?

    Re: (Mickstix)

OK....... same one then...... but even before the water went high in crooked lake the pass through to the southern lobe was over 12 ft deep down the center of the pass....... The hurricanes from 04/05 changed that lake that much ?????

Or are you talking that cut through to the very southern lake that goes through all the cattails and the pads area for about 1/4 to 1/2 mile...... over to the little bowl shaped section where the public launch ramp is at ?

Yes Chief..... there are two crooked lakes..... as Mick said though the other is really small.

Here's the area Im referring to.. I never fished it before the hurricanes.. But the passage into the area Im talking about is very narrow these days, with grass beds encroaching on both sides.. The new cut may even be man made/maintained? But it was very shallow in the summer, and if theyve not had any more rain than we've had, it's probably unpassable.. (There's apparently one more lobe, even further south, with a canal that connects it.. But we ran aground trying to get to the canal too.)

Scratch that.. Memory is coming back now.. The area Im talking about is actually below (south) of the "circle" in the map above.. When the lake filled up, I guess that area that looks like land, got filled with water, and there's a small cut to get straight into it.. (The canal on the west, that used to lead down to it, is under water..) So ya actually go through a narrow cut, to get into the southern most lobe, with the public ramp.. That narrow cut is where ya need to be careful!

I believe the drain to the next lake is not passable by boat, it is just an over flow drain when the water level is at flood stage.

That bank along the west side where your red circle is used to be some great fishing...... also the area above it what looks like is vegetation on the water in the sat photo used to be pretty good areas too..... I fished that lake a lot before I got hurt...... I always liked Crooked.
