Engine codes?

I am looking at a 2006 etec 225
E225DHLSDF
5122896 (this is listed on the motor, according to the seller and his paper work)

E225DHLSUE
5164793 (this is what the history report said)

What is wierd is the model and serial # on the marina's ticket does not match up with the Evinrude printout. When I pointed this out to the seller he called them and they assured them it WAS the same motor. Is this normal?

The follwing codes were pulled:
Code 38, 3 times, "Oil pressure pulses in distribution manifold not detected"
Code 97, 4 times, "Intermittent switched (B+) detected"

What do these mean? Should I be concerned?

Are there any recalls/upgrades the motor needs?

Hi ebs32, without naming names there is something wrong here. Serial.#05122896 was sold new on a Stratos on the 12/13/06 while serial.#05164793 is on a Ranger sold new 05/03/07.

They are not the same engine and they are not registered under the same owners names so I would want answers myself.

Marina claims that IS my motor and they are just not familuar with the etec software. Is this possible, that my serial # would not appear in the print out when they hooked it up. Seems like when you hook it up to a motor that would automatically put in the correct serial#. Marina said the motor info on the heading was from the first motor they checked when the brp tech was there to set it up.

What do you guys know about this software? Could this really happen?

The software will read the information from the motor it is connected to if the key is on and the diagnostic cable is attached to the correct port.

Hi, as Elgin mentions the laptop will record the serial number of the engine that it is plugged into. I am a little lost, is one of the serial numbers in your orginal post your engine or are they serial numbers of an engine that you are looking to buy?

Either way, the fact that there is a difference in the serial numbers will be because they came from different engines and as mentioned sold on different days and boats.

Hope you get it sorted, but I would just take the boat into the Marina and plug the laptop into the EMM and go to the identify page and that is where the serial number is.

This marina must have made a mistake!!!

The boat I am buying is the Stratos and I have NO IDEA what is up with the Ranger?????

I will call Evinrude tomorrow and see what they think I should do. The marina tech thinks he did everything right, so no sense arguing with him! Plus they charged us (current owner and I are splitting) one hour labor and I am 700 miles away from the boat right now!
