My father just picked up this boat with a 40hp rude, long shaft i think. Can I raise the motor to get a few MPH more? I know it's a 40 but just by looking i'm guessing he's 6" below bottom of boat.

surprised no one's chimmed in yet. Find out what the manufacturers WOT rpm range is and figure out where your running at now. Raise the motor to increase rpms and lower the motor if your over the rpms now. that's a general way to set the motor without getting too technical.
I had the same setup new back in 93' and I raised the motor a hole or two and added a stingray. Made a world of difference to the performance. Before I raised the engine, the boat would porpoise if I trimmed the motor.![]()
