    97 201 Deck Extention - How to....

Hey guys. Just wondering if anyone has an easy way to make a deck extention for my 201... My dad has really bad knees and sometimes he like to fish up front and I'm nervous about him falling in the pit....

Any how to's and maybe some pics would be awesome!

    Thanks guys!

When I did my Ranger, I took some 1x2 to make the frame. Then I laid plywood on top and re-enforced the center with 1x2. water proofed it and then carpeted it. The 1x2 supported the lip of the center. So far its held up.

I have a 96 201 and took "L" channel made out of aluminum and bolted it to the fiberglass on the 3 sides and put wood on top of it. I will take some pictures tonight and post them.

Hold up great. I've had then in for around 2 years with no problems. As you can see in the picture I screwed them every 2 inches or so to hold the wieght.

L" channel made out of aluminum and bolted it to the fiberglass on the 3 sides and put wood on top of it. Why did you screw it vs rivet it?

I felt that over time that the rivets would get loose. I have a boarding ladder on the back and it is riveted and very loose. I have had no problems with the screws backing out and it is very solid.

I made one for my '96 that was made like the one pictured, but the channel was bolted to the wood and the channel went out from it, so it would lay on top of the fiberglass under the storage locker lids...You opened the 3 storage lids and put in the extension, then closed the lids and it was held in place... I ran the carpet out under the bottom of the channel so it did not rub on the fiberglass...

Are the screws threaded or did you use self tapping screws? Did you use a backer strip on the other side (where the screws started from)? Did you have a plastic insert in the storage in the front of where the insert goes?
