    Commissioning 08 225HO

    Hi All,

I have an E225DHLSC 2008 225 HO and we commissioned it yesterday. I have two questions, I thought the 08 model wasn't supposed to have an XD-100 option. As I'm a computer tech, I helped the dealer download and install the latest software from dealerport 2.4.something so I know it was up to date. Should it offer the option? Should I run it in TCW-3 mode or is there a new XD100 mode that is safe? I left it in TCW-3

Also, the instructions for setting the TPS make no sense to me. They suggest moving the throttle to the stop position (WOT?) but doing this gets a number that is out of range. It suggests a target range which you can watch and move the throttle until you land within it. Is that what it wants? What is the point of moving it until it gets into the range? Other TPS's I've set in the past you calibrate at idle and measure WOT. I don't understand what it is comparing to. For example, I bring up the number 170 by opening the throttle a bit. How does it know where the butterflies are?

    Thanks

    Greg

    Re: Commissioning 08 225HO (ghind)

Hi Greg, get your dealer to show you the OB13SM2007 service memo from BRP and on this it basicallly states that 2008 engines with a H or L in the model number do not have the reduced oil ratio available. The 07 had the reduced setting available but in high speed/ high load application that a HO might experinece it is not recommended to run the reduced ratio, but still use the XD-100. Either way I would use the XD-100 and in fact I use this oil in my DI 225HP Ruderam with good results.

With the TPS calibration, you move the throttle roller forward until it touchs the throttle butterflies, but not open them and that is where you stop-easy to do and again there is a service memo on this, but I am sorry I can not lay my hands on it right now. I will see if i can find it when I get a minute. It is easy to do once you have a done it a few times, but really a new engine should not need it done.

I was on dealerport for another reason and had a minute to check, get your dealer to check out the "Hey Ole" from June 26th and that explains how to do the TPS calibration, but as mentioned no real need to do it on a brand new engine, especially if the control cables are adjusted correctly.

Enjoy the new engine, and make sure it is propped to run at its idela WOT RPM range of 5500-5600.

    Cheers,

    Huey.

Huey gave you some good information.

Evinrude Diagnostics has a help feature built-in to the program.
Click on "help" then "settings" then scroll down & look for TPS cal.
The help will further explain the feature, what it does and provide valid values for E-TEC inline & V engines.
Good luck with the new engine.

Its best to have the dealer call tech service and let them walk thru the programming with the dealership.

Why not prop to the max RPM of 5800??

You can also refer your dealer back to the DealerPort (dealer-only) web site.

The Technical Service group publishes a weekly service newsletter and both of these topics (how to perform a TPS calibration and RPM ranges) have been covered in the newsletter.

As Huey said, see the June 26, 2007 for TPS Calibration (it provides step-by-step instruction) and November 15, 2007 for 2008 RPM reference. For best performance, shoot for the "optimum" range recommended by BRP.

Thanks for the detailed replies. They were very helpful (most reassuring because all was OK but now I know how/why) . I took it for my first run tonight, it is a NICE motor. My wife says it sounds like an electric motor below about 1000rpm.
