Noise from motor at full throttle

I have this noise when i floor it from a dead stop its not bad not like piston knocking or anything but almost like a car pinging on bad gas...It doesn't do it any other time then under full throttle at take off even if i'm doing 30 mph and open it up it doesn't do it just under load...It is 6 month old gas and it was stablized before storage any ideas? thanks chris

Sounds like the reeds rattling to me. What engine? Some motors are loder than others. I think that is pretty common if ithat what it is.

its a 2001 225 rude ram i think i remember back a year ago or so it doing the same thing and i switched to plus gas and it stopped so it seems to be octane related...chris

This weekend i ran it pretty low on fuel and put in some super 93 octane and after about a few miles of driving the noise went away so its obviously octante related...Is this the reeds making this noise. Is it bad did i do any damage? chris c

It's not the reeds, it's detonation. Detonation = death to a 2 stroke. Get it to your tech to let him check it out!

Sorry, didn't mean to be so subtle... But detonation usually results in metal migration (parts of the pistons trying to get out). It starts by eating away at the edge of the piston on the exhuast side, then works its way to the center. I have seen them actually melt right through the center of a piston before.

If it's all gone now, it may have been related to the 6 month old fuel. Run a can of seafoam through it and keep an eye on her. If it makes the noise again, I'd pay a visit to your tech just to be on the safe side.

I remember in the past someone with a similiar motor saying they had to run plus in order to keep it from making that noise i normally do so i don't hear it but like you said a few months of storage and i guess it just looses its octane...What exactly is seafoam? chris

Sea Foam is available at your local Napa, Advanced Auto, Autozone, etc...It is a stabalizer/cleaner for the fuel system. It will help to clean everything out, prevent carbon in the motor, and keep what you have in the tank fresh for a while.

i actually run evinrude 2+4 fuel conditioner its a fuel stablizer and also helps keep everything clean and reduces carbon build up....i use it religously

Add a pint of golden grain 180 proof to your fuel tank. It will make your carbon buildup diappear!!!

Well bad news to report out on the lake again and more 93 octane added and still under acceleration it still has a rattling noise almost like something is loose but it only does it under load i figure if it was something loose it would do it all the time...Its not a hard knocking sound but it is a noticeable noise....I don't have time to get her to the dealer but i also don't want to do any damage especially since *warranty is up* aaahh this sucks ...But atleast the fishing was awesome...chris

Decided to chat with the dealer today to see his opinion on the situation he said to keep running high octane for awhile and to use crc de carbonizer i did that tonite and tomorrow i'm playing hooky from work and i'm gonna go out and run her good and do some fishing, hope all works out...chris c
