    Looking for advice

I just puchased my first larger boat, a 2003 TZX190 with a 175 HPDI, it came from a dealer and I was told everything checks out fine. The motor has 276 hours on it. What oil should I run and what is ring free? routine maint. ? Thanks for any advice.

Mark welcome to BBC. Yamaha recommends Yamalube thats the only oil I use, ringfree breaks up carbon deposits. Another option to ringfree is Seafoam, it also breaks up carbon but it also has a fuel stabilizer in it. Just follow the directions printed on the backs of the containers.

Congrats on the new skeeter post pictures of it sometime

First off, congrat's on the new ride. I've got the same boat and love mine.

RingFree is a Yamaha product that comes in a black bottle. 1oz/10gallons of gas for normal treatments. As mentioned above, it's a way to fight carbon buildup since carbon deposits are usually the main cause of death for an outboard motor.

You also need to run Marine Sta-Bil or SeaFoam in addition to RingFree to help this gas we get now. I'm not familiar with SeaFoam due to I use Sta-Bil.

FYI, if your boat didn't come with a 10micron water/fuel seperator .... GET ONE ! ! ! It most likely will be located somewhere under your back deck. It'll look like an 'oil filter'.

Like others said, the fuel treatment stuff, get a fuel/water seperator if you don't have one. I would think that the dealer has changed the LU oil and done some type of tune up. I change my LU oil twice a year. It's cheap to do it your self. Grease the bracket at the same time. If you ever need to get spark plugs, don't go to a dealer as they will be about $50, go to your local autoparts store. On your first trips of the day, let it warm up for about 5 mins.
