    SS 90 Questions

What are your thoughts on the older SS 90 boats? Looking for a starter bass rig, and have seen some for sale in my general area.

What price should one be worth (I know there is a lot of variation depending on age, condition, motor, etc.).

Any advice/ opinions are very much appreciated.

    Re: SS 90 Questions (Acuna)

I just sold my SS 90 about a month ago. It was a great littel boat and did really well in small water. I would not take it to a huge lake or any big water but other than that it was great. Mine had a Yamaha 90 on it and ran great. If you can get it for a good price I would say go for it.

What is your definition of "large water"? Most of my fishing is going to be in lakes smaller than 8000 acres. Might do an occasional trip to larger impoundments...

    Re: SS 90 Questions (Acuna)

great little boats, I bought one new in '93 and fished out of it until '99 and loved it. It was very economical to run and to tow. I dont guess I ever ran across any "big" water here in Arkansas that I wouldnt of put mine in, in fact I even towed it down to Texas a few times to Fork and Lake of the Pines and it did just fine down there. If you know thats the size boat you want then I think one would make you a great little fishing rig.

My 1st skeeter was a 95 ss90 with a 90 force on it, I would take that boat anywere I would take my 98 185zx, 99 202zx to. I had it on KY Lake, Harris Chain in FL a few times with no problems the ride may not be as nice/good in 3fters as the other boats but it got the job done.

I would still have it as a back up boat but I had a small problem pulling it back from prefishing a few years back 7-5-2005, when I moved back to CA in 2004 to take care of dad that was the boat I moved out here with me and I left my 99 202zx in Indiana to use back there

    Re: SS 90 Questions (macinckirk)

Man I wish I still had it, I could fish for a month on the same amount of oil and gas as I use for 1 trip with my 20I

Man and I'll tell you my boat was made GREAT back Then here is a pic of it in 05 before the problem

and here is how it looked after the truck rolled 3 times the trailer and boat rolled 2 times

That should tell you something about the boat and the way it was made

I bought a '96 brand new and fished out of it 11 years. I sold it last summer for $4,500. It was a great little boat....never had a lick of trouble with it.

I have a 98 SS90 with a 90 Yamaha and I love it. It is my first boat and I could not be happier. I run it on the Potomac River a lot (which is pretty big water) with no problems. I upgraded to a 70lb trolling motor and put a good GPS on it and it gets me exactly where I need to go. Good rod storage too!

    Re: SS 90 Questions (RockvilleMDAngler)

I had one up until 2007 and I intend to buy another in the next year or two. I had mine on some big water (Lake Ontario, Lake Erie) and never had a problem. It can be frightening sometimes in rough water, but go slow and smart and you'll be fine.

    Re: SS 90 Questions (Acuna)

I bought a 97 SS90 with 80hp Yamaha new in '97, and loved it. But I wanted to fish bigger waters so I did get a 2004 SX190 in 2008. I had kept the SS90 always garaged, so it was in great shape and maintained and I sold it for $6250 last year.

If you're a conservative driver and don't take the big rollers at WOT, you'll get beat up and wet, but you'll get back home. It's a 16 footer, so choose your battles wisely, like my daddy used to say.

I had a dual console, and storage space was at a premium. Since I didn't need two livewells, I plugged one up and dismantled the front livewell switch, and used the starboard livewell for storage.
