I have bought a 1997 zx202 with a 2000 225 vmax. I never paid attention but the coast guard boat rating for my boat is only 200 hp. Is this a problem? Can I get a new plate to put on my boat? please help!!

Find a used 200hp cowl for the motor.![]()
I seriously doubt the sheriff will look under the hood, but of course if you have an accident it could effect you and/or your insurance. I would call the sheriff at the marine division and ask.
Only thing that would worry me would be any insurance claims/issues

Just a thought...are you sure it is not a 200 with a 225 cowl?
It could definately be a problem if you fish tournaments...

Yep, could be a insurance problem or tournament problem.

Changing the plate on the boat to match the motor definitely IS NOT a good idea.
It is a 225hp.....where can I find a used 200 motor hood
You might consider ordering new numbers from a dealer and changing them out. Cowlings are very expensive
