    Scratch in new ZX190

I have only had my brand new ZX190 about a month and looks like I somehow put a 3 inch scratch on the port side. It's not on the bottom of the hull, more like the side. Actually on top of the metalflake stripe. It doesn't seem to be very deep, at least not into the flake. Would you guys use some sort of rubbing compound to get this out? Does it matter what kind. This is the first boat I have ever owned so I appear to have a lot more questions as I go along.
BTW, I love my new Skeeter. Other then the speedometer going out after about 7 hours it's unbelievable!!

Re: Scratch in new ZX190 (VaMan)

Like someone once told me when i bought my new boat, go ahead and put a scratch on it so it will already be done. I know it sucks, but hey, if it didn't get a few scratches, you weren't using it. I got one from the corner of a dock. Nothing i could do. Life goes on. Will not be the first and will not be the last. I know i didn't help you out but i don't worry to much.

your speedo being out is probably just debris in the pickup hole thats on the front edge of your lower unit. You can take a small drill bit and run it up in there "by hand" and clean it out. But the speedo's arent very accurate anyway and its just going to clog back up again sometime in the near future, so its really not a big deal. As far as the scratch goes, its like what FC said, at least you got that "first scratch" over with, now you can relax and fish. You could use a automotoive type rubbing compound and try to get it out, just be sure that its not a real abrasive formula, you dont want to cut through the clear and get into your flake. Have you tried to just hit the spot with a good cleaner type wax? That might take it out if its a light scratch.
