2006 225 HO ETEC shutting down

Hello BBC, good to be back from my year tour in Korea.
Has anyone ever hear of this problem: After launching the boat I was motoring to the dock, the motor died and the power panel lights went off, everything died. I pressed the start button, the live well came on, pressed in the code and started the motor. Things were working, untill I got on plane and it happened again. This repeated 3 times. I shut everything down, reset the main breaker, and it worked the rest of the day. The only thing in common is the moter was in gear, it never shut down while idling.
If you've hear of this problem, please give me some ideas. This will not work out if this keeps happening.

Update. I took it out this weekend and it happend all day. I had to put it on the trailer.

Which breaker are you talking about? I have the main breaker on.

The main breaker on the starting battery side of the boat.

I think I would look under the dash and see if you have the key switch installed, hook it up and see if the problem goes away, you may have a bad key pad on the boat.

What does this key switch look like?

I was kinda thinking keypad too, but when it only happened with the motor in gear, I thought motor.
I'm taking it to the Evinrude dealer (non Ranger Dealer) later today. I will try to make some calls to see if they can get those guys some trouble shooting steps for the key pad.

It's good to be back,...now I just want to take my boat out and go fishing.

Greg, Mine ain't a Z, but I went through the same symptoms and problem with my 519 right after i purchased it. Finally one tx. it would not start at all. I called Ranger and they sent me a replacement keypad (plug and play) along with a backup keyswitch. Problem was fixed..............................Roger
