    johnson 130

i have a 1998 johnson 130 and today out on the lake i hit a stump on plane. th lower unit is fine but i think i bent the piston shaft on the trim unit. is that a one piece unit or can the shaft be replaced. im hoping that i dont have to buy the whole thing im sure its costly. im pretty sure its the shaft because we went to load it and it made a bad noise when lifting, it was good on the way down but made a whiny noise on the way up. i think the bent shaft also caused the seal to leak the fluid. because we unloaded it again and when we went to leave it was very slow and weak. kind of jumpy like when hydraulics are low on fluid so im thinking that its leaking out the seal that the bent shaft messed up. any advice would be very helpful and appreciated guys. thanks in advance.

If the tilt ram is bent it can be replaced it is costly though close to $700.00 for the ram itself you should also replace the cap or at least the cap seals. You will need a spanner wrench that you can obtain from any tool supply store. It is best to do this on the bench, You will also need a pair of snap ring pliers and a 3/4" wood dowel. Trim the motor up and engage the support bracket and trim down to take the weight off the motor. Remove the upper snap ring from one side of the upper pin and drive it out with the dowel. Run the trim down so the ram will clear the bracket, remove the lower pin the same way and remove the unit. You will need to remove the post side belly pan to pull the trim motor's cable out. Hope this helps.

turns out its not bent just a bad trim motor. it broke and allowed fluid into the actual motor. ordered a new motor but one of the seals is bad so im gonna replace it.

    thanks
