    SHO's on a Phoenix

I know several of you guys run one on your Phoenix. Just wanting some reviews of the motors performance, durability and gas milage. How well does Yamaha stand behind their motors? Does anyone know the approx cost difference between the 250 Pro XS and the SHO? I have always been a Merc guy but the SHO motors look very impressive. The videos I have seen show awsome holeshot and great midrange. What is your experience?

Re: SHO's on a Phoenix (TritonKTB)

    TritonKB,

We at Limit Out Marine are very impressed with the SHO's hole shot, midrange, durability, fuel mileage, oil consumption and quietness.

As a previous two stroke owner I find this motor to be one of the quitest motors out there. You dont have to yell to your partner when running at 70+ to tell him something, just use normal talk tone.

Oil consumption - Just takes 7 quarts of oil and you change it every 50 hours.

Hole shot- This motor is all about torque. Your Phoenix will be up in plane in less time than most two strokes.

Midrange- Punch-You will love passing guys and seeing them in your rear view mirror.

Durability- Have not had one issue since running the SHO for the last year.

Costs vs XS not sure here due to dealer pricing so I cant comment accurately.

    Russ

Re: SHO's on a Phoenix (TritonKTB)

I have a Phoenix 721 with a 250 SHO on order and can not comment on performance yet. However, a 250 is a 250! The difference being quiet and smooth and no oil needed ($28-$30) for each tank of fuel.

I would expect that the net price difference between the Merc pro xs and the SHO is about $2k or maybe a bit more.

Either way, I would not let this be a deciding factor! When you are spending $50k plus for your new dream rig......get what you want or desire! If you were looking at a Skeeter or Ranger... You would be looking at $65k+ .... so would you decide on an engine based on a $2k difference!

Think about value and what you like and will be happy with!

My first requirement was a SHO. I eliminated many boats because you could not normally get them with a SHO. From there I shopped different brands and wound up with a Phoenix!

Great quality, features, customer service and competitively priced. Great 'Value" with the Phoenix!

P.S. When I purchase mine ... I got the standard 3 year factory warranty plus the additional 3 year (now two year) YES extended factory warranty on the engine!...Does that give you confidence? It does to me!.. I hope I am alive 6 years from now...

Re: SHO's on a Phoenix (TritonKTB)

I've been a huge fan of the Pro XS for the last 5 or 6 years. This last season I ran a 721 with 250 SHO and was very impressed. It is everything you read and hear about it. I cant say anything bad about it at all. I am going to run another one this year. I never thought I would run a fourstroke but the SHO proved me wrong.

Re: SHO's on a Phoenix (hogbronzeback)

It's excellent. Have had 2 ProXS motors before on a 21 Triton and a 20 Ranger and liked the Merc for sure.

Like the SHO better. Have about 34hrs on the motor now and zero issues. Fast, super strong out of the hole, mid range blows the 2 stroke away, and no oil is a no brainer plus my battery box is nice and shiny with no gunk in it from 2 stroke oil.

Ask any specifics you want to. You'll get straight answers here. Nothing to hide.

    The SHO does go on
