What kind of lower unit is on a 2000 225 EFI, someone told me it was a torquemaster, is this true, I didn't think it was but don't know if it has another name.

Does it have holes in the nose-cone or just ones on the side ?
the 2000 efi came stock with a fleet master. if the lower has been replaced and it has holes in the nosecone it is a fleet master or a tourqe master depending upon shaft size and tourqe tab on the skeg.
it has hose in the nose cone and the side what is the difference on the skeg, it looks like someone welded on a torque tab, or a skeg extention

the tab on the tm is almost unnoticeable til you run your hand over it. the later model fm used the same housing as the tm minus the tab and the heavy duty prop shaft. the best way to tell is the size of the shaft if it is a 1" shaft it is a tm i may be wrong but i dont think any of the tm ever had the regular shafts.
Here's a little info:
Standard 3 liter gearcase: Has no torque tab, dual water intakes (low and side), and uses the "standard" flo-tru torque hub for the prop.
Torquemaster: HAS torque tab on starboard (right) side of skeg (feel from front to back to find it at the trailing edge). Dual water intakes, and FAT, heavy-duty propshaft. Most commonly used in "Single" engine applications (high performance).
Fleetmaster: No torque tab. Dual water intakes, and FAT, heavy-duty propshaft. Most commonly used in "dual engine applications" as the "Port" engine.
Torquemaster and Fleetmaster require the high-performance prop hub kit. The above descriptions "assume" that the case has not been "modified".![]()

Don.....I have a 2001 250XB and it has the torquemaster lower unit with the intake in the nose (plus the side intakes), but doesn't have a fat shaft.
What you have:
You have a standard 3.0 L Merc lower unit
Water intakes on nose and sides
Merc standard prop shaft
no Merc factory torque tab
Gambler Zr2 factory welded torque tab
Go to Gambler's web site and look under option, ZR2 performance package includes a Gambler factory welded torque tab on the 225 EFI 3.0 L.
