    Gunwale tie-downs?

Just purchased a 99 Intimidator, and the rear of the boat extends too far beyond the trailer to use standard tie downs in the back. Just curious if the Rear Gunwale Tie-down strap is a good idea instead, or if it is really necessary?? What do you guys do?

    Welcome to the BBC Jon.........

99% of Gamblers have the tiedowns going to U bolts at the sides of the jackplate. I'm assuming you have a jackplate?

Im not sure where the U-bolts would mount because the whole plate moves hydraulically....heres a picture, and maybe you guys can point out where the bolts can be mounted if youre familiar with the jackplate system...

I would think that you could mount them just to the right of the "O" in Hydro........in that area. You could mount them on the section that's against the transom but it appears that might have the straps rubbing on the fiberglass. You could mount them on the "movable" part of the jackplate; it wouldn't really matter........you'd have the motor at the height that you want to tow and then would attach the straps.

On second thought........it would be best to mount the U bolts to a section that doesn't move, that way you wouldn't be putting any stress on the hydraulics of the jackplate.

I have the same jackplate that is shown in the pic. I hook my straps in the opening on the part that is bolted to the transom. The straps do touch the fiberglass, but they have not hurt the finish of the boat. It is up to you.

You MUST strap the backside of your boat down... Not only is it dangerous to tow without them, but I believe it's the law...

I had the exact same setup, and my straps slipped through a small hole in the top of the jackplate mounting bracket... Check this pic, can't see the hole in the the plate, but you get the idea...
