I have a post running on the Merc board. They say my GPS speedo will not work with my 332C. Need to figure out a way to make it work. Maybe a separate GPS antennae for the speedo? What do you guys think.
Sandy, you are good at these types of issues.![]()

I can guarantee I will get it to work.
My GPS speedo (Nordskog) is based on Garmin software. I tried for a month to get it to talk to my X-19 (there's a wiring diagram in the Lowrance manual) and finally called both Lowrance and Nordskog. Lowrance said it could be done, but Nordskog told me there was a bit rate difference between the Garmin and Lowrance NMEA 0183 data and I needed a Garmin antenna. "P" I'm guessing you'll need a GPS antenna that's compatible with the SmartCraft gauge. You might want to send an e-mail to the SmartCraft tech guys.
Preston,
White Gambler has LOW. 332C s in his 2006 Gambler with the Merc 2006 250XS.
Give him a shot.

He doesn't have Smartcraft Gauges.
I don't understand why they say it won't work. I just removed my older LMS-320 and installed a LCX-25c with the new "lowrance net" but it still has the old NMEA hook ups. It worked fine once the NMEA output was turned on in the set up menu.
Why do they think it won't work?
I down loaded the 332c emulator. It works exactly like the 25c. Assuming that you have the wires hooked up correctly, go to the system set up menu on the 332, then to the communications port menu. check the NMEA 183 Output box and your done.
I seem to remember that the Guages had to be set to use the GPS speed also.
Do me a favor. Once you get it working, set your gps simulator for 100mph and let me know what the digital speed reading is on your smartcraft guage. Mine has a 1 mph error and I'm 99% sure the problem is the guages. Just not sure if mine is the only one or if all the guages suffer from the same problem.
I'm leaving to go fishing for the weekend, I'll check back in on Sunday for a progress check.
We have it figured out.
I will set it tomorrow for a test which looks like it is going to be fine,
Are you talking Lowrance to SmartCraft? I said it won't work with a Nordskog Digital Speedo to a LCX-19, (it may very well work with the SmartCraft), but if you can't get it to work (Lowrance to SmartCraft) you'll probably have to get a SmartCraft compatible antenna. The SmartCraft tech's sould be able to save you some time and tell you.
Preston you will need a separate smartcraft GPS antennae for the speedo. I been down this path two years ago and my LCX-19C is not compadable with the smartcraft speedo. You will need to get a separate smartcraft GPS antennae for the speedo.
Bye from Baikonur, KZ I here for the ARABSAT-4A Launch campaign -30 below zero F. Maybe try some ice-fishing.
I got an email from a guy that is running my exact set up. He says the 7000 series works perfectly with the 332C Lowrance. That is exactly what he has. He told me what settings to put the 332C on and it will work fine. Apparently the 332C has both the NMEA and the 0183 software in it. He even told me what the baud rate has to be on. I have been all day putting back together the motorcycle and all day tomorrow on it so I will set up the GPS Speedo next week. I am pretty sure it will work. But if it doesn't then I will buy a separate antennae. I will keep you guys posted.
You got that a little confused "P," its NMEA 0183 data. If that guy says it will work with your 332C, its because the new Lowrances are now using NMEA 2000 data. NMEA is a standard communications format for marine electronic equipment.
The older Lowrance X-15's and X-19's for example, can exchange information with any device that transmits or receives NMEA 0183 data, so they say. However, the software that the different companies (Garmin, Lowrance, Raytheon) use to transmit the data may be different and that's what my problem was (according to Nordskog). Nordskog gauges are based on Garmin software, Lowrance uses their own software.
From what I've been reading, the new NMEA 2000 data is pretty powerful. Compaines like Bennett are using it to transmit trim tab position to all Lowrance net units and other units that are NMEA 2000 compliant.
http://www.bennetttrimtabs.com/nmea.htm Now that is slick.
Sandy that's pretty much what I thought at first and I'm one of the ones who told Preston it would not work. Then I did some research and found out the 332C has two communication ports and can send and recieve both NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 data
.
The Lowrance Operators Manual explains it much better than me. See pages 35, 36, 37 and page 151 in this link http://www.lowrance.com/Manual....pdf for a better explanation.
So even though is uses NMEA 2000, it can communicate with NMEA 0183 devices like SmartCraft guages.

My 2 units also have two com ports, Comm-2 is for NMEA output only (page 32). Unfortunatley its only 0183 data. I've made every phone call, every dip switch combo and wiring configuration with no luck, ended up having to get a sepatate antenna. Nordskog is the one that told me "Mine" won't work with Lowarance because of the software incompatability. With SmarthCraft they might just work, different animal. Some of the new 2006 Lowrances have the GPS antenna's built in. What we really need is Bluetooth technology.

If Nordskog is based on Garmin software do we know what software SmartCraft is based on? Will SmartCraft talk to Lowrance using 0183 or is it NMEA 2000 only?

Is it all working now????
Sandy,
You are much better at this stuff then I. If you guys give me the questions to ask, I will hammer them out at the show with Livorsi and Merc right there. Better then over the phone they can't get away.![]()

You going down on Thursday for all 4 days? We all know the only reson you're going is to search for that 300XS, so don't be kidding us.![]()
