Should I mix my oil and gas and disconnect the oil injection on the 150 Merc black max that came with my 84 Champion? Peace of mind says disconnect and mix as they were new back then and I don't know how dependable they were.

For that old of a motor unhook and premix![]()
Check with Don Weed (European Marine) in the Merc forum. He's our Merc expert and can tell you what you should do.
Thanks to everyone for their opinion, gonna switch to mixing. That way, if the motor is running, its gettin oil!![]()
Hmmm, it's 27 years old, I'd say that's a pretty good track record for the oil injection system. But I'm a noob. I'd do what the experts here say, you may have just been lucky. In which case I'd head over to Lake Mead, stop in Las Vegas put $10 on black 22. With that kind of luck you may pay for the trip and a new[er] Champion!![]()
If you disconnect make sure you do it right!!!!
Get the kit and make sure you know what you're doing.
You will use more oil !!
Having said that, I've done it with many of my motors. I have 3 of those bottles that are marked in ounces that I kept in an ammo box in the truck. I kept em loaded for 10 gallons and 5 gallons. Also put my additives in there so it was good to go. As long as you buy 5,10 or 15 gallons of gas, it's a no brainer.

Pop is right, you will use more oil. I mix my oil, and use the bottle with the correct oil to gallons markings also. If I am going to do a long WOT run then I may add some oil. I also mix in Stabil and quikleen each time.
I skipped the whole oil injection thing.
I went from pre-mixing oil and buying only the freshest 93 octane for high compression 2.5s straight to a 4 stroke.![]()
