Just changed out my dash mount to HDS7 and added a Merc smart gauge. My dash area was pretty butchered by the previous owner where he recessed a LCX28. It was basically just hanging loose as you can see in the 1st picture. In the 2nd picture, you can see the aluminum frame I cut out to match the opening. I attached it to 2 pieces of aluminum angle iron which I screwed to the F/G running parallel to the hole behind the dash and spray painted it with a can of truck bed stuff (forgot the name). Solid as a rock now and the HDS7 fits perfect in the hole as you can see in the 3rd picture. You can also see in the 3rd picture the Mercury Monitor gauge I installed this weekend. Let's just sayt that to call that a tight fit would be an understatement. I was nervous wreck drilling that hole because I had less than 1/8" room for error on all sides. Actually chickened out and drilled a slightly smaller hole than required and used a rasp on a drill to file down the sides until the gauge fit.
