My cranking battery failed to start my Opti so I unhooked and rehooked to one of my trolling motor batteries so I could start the motor and get back to the truck.
On the way home I stopped and bought a new cranking battery and hooke everything back up. Somewhere in the process my gas gauge pegged out on full and has not returned. I thought it might be stuck and would start working again after a few trips. It has been that way since late fall.
Anyone know what I can do to fix the issue?
Sounds to me like you un-plugged the tank sender during the battery swap.

Dam, good news you wont have to buy any gas!! I concur with post above..Try re-hooking everything back up and see if it re-sets itself..

I checked and all of the wires are connected to the battery. Any other ideas of what I can check?
Check out my info post at the top of the page. There is a troublshooting guide for the fuel system. Since it is pegged "Full", that would indicate you have the sender wire grounded.
If it worked before, LIke the rest check to make sure all connections are correct.
I have checked the connections that I took off and all are back where they belong. There is nothing loose on the back of the gauge head. Is there an inline fuse anywhere that could be blown?
Mine did this when I changed gauges..... All I did was remove the sending unit from the tank and moved it up and down a few times and it fixed mine.....
I haven't been to the tank on my 210 yet, but looks like you pull the seats then there are screws that hold the tank cover in place. May not even have to remove the seats, but it will probably make it lighter and more manageable. I just assume the 206 is built the same.
Dayne i dont know what year 206 you have my 2003 206 you can access the fuel sender from behind a metal plate which is located behind the middle seat backrest. you just need a phillips head screwdriver to remove the plate. hope that helps
I took the seat back off the boat and removed the plastic port cap. I can get my hand in and find the gas line where it goes into the tank. It feels like there is a nut holding it on. Is this where the sending unit is? I hate to take anything off when I can't even see what it is.
something must have changed a bit, i can see my sending unit and the fuel hose on mine with a small flashlight by removing the plate. You still have to reach way up in there to access it. It wont be real easy.
Hmmm, on my 07 210, it looks like there are 3-4 screws along the kick board below the seats and 3-4 across the deck just aft of the seats. It appears this part would come off exposing the entire tank. I haven't dug into it yet, but will be in the next week or two. The livewell drain cable was wedged somewhere the valve and control. The result was the Z bend on the control end of the cable being broke off. Got a new one coming, but need to find a clear route for the install.
It sounds like Genmar made them a bit more accessible than the folks down in AR did. Mine is a 2001.
On my 06 206, when you pull the aluminum seat base there is still a lot of fiberglass in the way of free access to the tank. The part of the tank that is underneath the seats is wide open to you - the part of the tank that is behind the seats is tough but you can get to it. There are screws top and bottom of the seat base hidden in the carpet, just look for them, and there will probably be some also in the carpet of the "arm rests".
I would remove all wiring from the cranking battery and see if the gauge drops first.
