Just have to Share

I just came home from the Lake Erie Rally this past weekend. I have always wondered if my "Old School" 1993 190 Champion with a measly 150 HP Evinrude Intruder would measure up to all the others with more modern rigs and much higher HP engines. Well, let me tell you, I'm a believer now . When it got rough on Erie (biggest and roughest water I've ever seen), my Champion performed. I was running side by side with 200, 225 and 250 HP motors. And I was "mostly dry" when everyone else was completely soaked. Everyone else had to run their bilge pumps constantly. Everytime I hit the bilge, she was empty. Only time water came out was after a rain shower. My Champ got soooo many compliments from the other guys, it made me feel rather special. I'm waiting for some pic's another boater took. I can't wait to see what the Champ looks like on Erie. It will be a real shame if these hulls go by the wayside under the stratos badge.

Re: (MMosher)

I've got to say that the Champ hull is one amazing boat!! Yes Dave is corcect. He was runnign in the rough stuff and I had one heck of a time hanging with him without getting beat up. When I had an oppertunity to pass him I did and thought I had him smoked...well that wasn't quite the case. as soon as i came off pad who was right next to me but dave!!!! that 150 is no 150...that is one of those HOT motors from back int he day!!

Now don't believe all this crap about Champs keeping you dry while the rest of us get soaked! All Dave did was bitch about how his arm got wet from hanging it out the side of the boat! If he had a damn Hot foot none of this would have happened!!!

Dave gave me the chance to get behind the wheel of his Champ and I have got to say that Pat is oh so right when it comes to these boats. The holeshot is so quick that it doesn't exist...seriously. The boat handles like it's on rails and takes the chop and rough stuff with the best of them. With a few tweakes and some slight upgrades his "little" 150 will walk away from my old tub....in any conditions!

I know I'm preaching to the Champ crowd here but these boats really impressed the crap out of me. Dave you got one heck of a rig that I wouldn't change a thing other than some prop work and maybe a hot foot. If you do those you can be sure my Pop will be down to take the damn boat from you! Thanks bud looking forward to fishing wiht you again and mabe trying a few props before the ice gets here.

I guess you now know you own one of the best hulls ever made - bar none. I've owned two 190s and they are incredible rigs.

Re: (JoePA)

I love to "Smoke" most of em with 250's in the "rough stuff"..........In a 24 year Champ.
I am asked all the time if I have something done to my motor.................
Nope I really dont and my boat compared to a Stratos ,Bullet , etc is not fast
But man it sure gets to 70 fast and can stay there when others cannot witch is what seperates it .
My famous Quote is there is nothing special about my boat , its just a Ole Champion

RUMORS ARE CARRIED BY HATERS , SPREAD BY FOOLS , AND ACCEPTED BY IDIOTS !

I don't think he needs a 4 blade..that hull rides up and out of the water nice. I'm thinking Dave tries my 24 Fury and raise that motor just a touch. I know that boat will run mid to high 60's no problem.

We ain't testing props on Beltzville - thats for sure. I wish my pockets were deeper. New VRO pump for my Rude set me back $600 a month ago. We'll see if Santa knows a thing or two about boating. I keep her in Craig's warehouse over the winter. It is a good place to do some tinkerin'. There is a couple things I have to do this winter - normal maintainence things. We'll see what's left after that.

Re: (slinkeey)

It's one of those "R" boats that we commonly talk about Not quite sure of the model; I believe it's a "Z" something model. Really - it's a nice boat, only a couple of years old, he got a really good deal on it after he swamped his older Ranger on Erie a couple years back Here's a better pic of it. I hope Lea doesn't get too upset with me posting a pic of a Ranger.
