    Thermostat question

1986 Johnson 110 horse, V-4. Serial number is J110TLCDF. Can someone tell me if this motor is a crossflow or loop charged? Also, where exactly are the thermostats located on this engine, looking at the motor from the rear??? I posted this question awhile back, but have had computer problems and can't seem to find it. I think I have a stuck thermostat. Overheat alarm went off after boat sat for four months. It's peeing good and has new impellar. Pee stream is not getting very warm. Any help apreciated.

    Re: Thermostat question (Sabre175)

Your motor is a Crossflow, the thermostats are (looking from the rear) in the housing below the power head, see the two large hoses that run to the bottom of the cylinder heads?

The housing on the other end of those hoses is the thermostat housing.

The Best way to get to the thermostats is to lift the power head off the midsection.

    Re: Thermostat question (RUSTY63)

So can this be done by a NON-Mechanic person like me? Do you actually have to break down the engine to do this?

Also, what kind of gauge does this connect to?

Thanks as I am clueless here.

    Re: Thermostat question (Airxsteel)

Go to BRP's parts site: http://epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=E
Look up your motor and take a look under "Midsection" It's part 78 in the diagram. That way you can see if you feel up to it or not.
