    power trim/tilt motor

I have a 1979, 85hp Johnson. My tilt motor is bad. My question is to get to the third screw to change it, do you have to remove the motor from the boat? And since I have never removed an outboard before, do I need special equipment, or can a couple of guys do it the old fashioned way?

    Thanks

    Re: power trim/tilt motor (sarge)

We pull the engine for the third/rear screw & hang the motor from the hoist with a flywheel lifting ring. We normally leave everything else still connected while changing it out. I'm assuming your in fresh water because of the age of the engine but be carefull with the screws because they are easy to break. At least they are in salt water.
