Light load you should not go above 6000 rpm. The book says 5750.

If you can't run with the big dogs, just stay on the porch.

I haven't blown the new one up yet but then again I haven't even gotten it started yet.
BTW it is basically a stock 98 225 with HO porting and the heavy duty internal parts. Big rods, forged and top pinned pistons with the early intake and midbore carbs. I haven't even removed the airbox yet. It is sitting on a custom 16" drystacked mid though.
It has spark and fuel so it should fire. I haven't checked compression because it was checked by Monty before I got it. I think it might be timing.
If I'm not mistaken Rusty told me to not go over 5400.
5400 rpm is too low for WOT with a light load. Thats ok if you are fully loaded. If 5400 is your rpms light then you are going to bog the motor when you add a load and possibly damage it over time. I'm sure Rusty will agree with this.
My motors are never stock so don't run yours at 8500 rpm. My current motor is close to stock so I'll only be turning it about 6500.
Mike, I haven't blown up a looper yet. Just 2 crossflows in the past 2 years. Bam Bam, yeah thats me.
