    Control Box Disassembly

Yes, I've heard there is no such thing as a stupid question, but I might be pushing it on this one... I need to get the control box open to check the throttle cables attached on that end (motor end is fine). I've taken out all of the visible screws but something is still holding it together. If I have to take the shift lever off, how does that come off? 1990 70 Horse Johnson VRO.

Backside of the box and opposite the shift lever is a Allen head screw that holds the lever on. (if the box is like mine)

Be sure you leave some threads in the screw before you take it all the way out. You will need to use a punch and hammer to get the handle to pop. By the look of your pic it does look like your handle was switched sides to mount. The handle will need to be removed if this is a case.

Punch and Hammer my ARSSSS!!! More like a Sledge Hammer! I'm about to throw this thing against the wall . Two days of trying to get this open (OK... so it's more like an hour and a half and two beers).

Punch and hammer? Where would I apply the punch (I understand how to use a hammer)? I'm wondering what those 3 little holes around the handle hole (where the allen head screw was) do? I've tried both types of screw drivers and every allen wrench made by man, nothing...

I've removed everything visible that could be holding it. Nothing. Here's the top and bottom of the control box (it's metal).

Thanks for all of your help... My next post might be asking if JB Weld will hold together a control box.
