    Spun Hub, I think

    Johnson J90 2000

I think I spun the hub today, after a good time with the local Redfish population.

On the way back to the ramp, doing 25mph, sudden surge in RPM, no forward speed. Hobbled back to the ramp, 2 miles, at 4 mph.

Ok, so back home. Pulled cotter pin, turned nut loose with fingers, but the prop will not come off. Stuck, I guess. If I can get it off, I can drop at local tackle shop where there is a 2x per week drop and pick-up for spun hub repairs.

    The prop is a Michigan Wheel Rapture. I believe its a 13 1/4 x 17.

How do I get this thing off !!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, the answer was a "BIG HAMMER" and two big guys pulling at the same time the hammer was employed. Spun for sure. On its way to the prop shop.

They come off a lot easier if you put a little grease on the splines and take the prop off periodically to check for fishing line.

I have learned that through this incident. It will be done on an annual basis hence forth.

The BRP triple gard grease is cheap enough and you can get it at your dealer!

Thanks for the heads up on the grease. I think I am going to purchase a spare aluminum prop as well.

    Re: Grease more than anually.

You should remove and clean/regrease the propshaft splines more often than anually in your water.

Are you still dealing with the "yellow boats" down there?

    Sure,

Did some "catch and release" on some nice slot reds in Matlacha Pass yesterday and a couple of nice Jacks. Fishing cut pinfish in the bushes.

OK, let me know a few weeks in advnce. I will arrange to be in PG.

The redfisher runs pretty good with the Rapture. Hole shot is around 3 seconds, trimmed at WOT, do about 44 mph. Not bad with a 90hp.
