We are SO FAR away from having everything in place to totally replace oil, if that ever will be. So WHY can't our leaders do EVERYTHING possible to increase supply which will reduce the costs to us? They can do this while developing more alternatives to fossil fuels. Hello!!!

The lower the price of oil, the less incentive and/or demand for green.

because lowering the price of oil will help us be more self-sufficient. If we're unable to afford our groceries etc. we become wards of the state. IE we can't live without the government.... Giving them control of our lives.

We open up drilling - how many jobs do we create? The price of gas drops in half or more and disposable income for the 99% shoots up dramatically. Then what happens to the economy of those blood sucking Arabs who have us by the short hairs. Their economy tanks.

Wen you take something that is deeply entwined in every part of our economy...then try to restrict it so we can try to develop alternatives...that is not the right time. The right time is when the alternative is there..ready to repalce the fossil fuel.

I agree, but trying to allocate funding towards the development of something with a low demand is difficult to do.

We can produce a great deal more oil, but it will not substantially lower gas prices. We are close to refining capacity. There has not been a new refinery built in the US in decades, due to environmental regulations.

Because that Skidmark is common sense and we know that is not how this administration operates. They want to cut off our nose to spite our face.

We ARE producing more oil now than anytime during the Bush years! There is more oil rigs, more exploring contracts, more leases available! Speculating, the Bush- Cheney- Enron deal done behind closed doors is driving oil prices. The righties in this world want government out of the free market, so open your wallets, throw them more billions in your tax dollars, and enjoy! I'm sure they work sooo hard they've earned it!

We build more refineries...We open all the places we can for oil development...safely. This will drive down prices worldwide. We sell alot of oil..helps us make a profit. The Govt gets their share...helps our debt. Our people get jobs...helping them. The govt gets their share.
Then at the SAME time, it is mandated we develop alternative energies to replace 75% of fossil fule by a certain date.
The people win. The economy wins. The govt wins. Holy Cow!! Now that would make too much sense.

It doesn't. All it does is help those in the green energy business get a return on the political donations they made in the previous election.
An honest man who wishes to run for president can't do it alone, it takes money, and those that give him money expect something in return. This is why an honest man never stands a chance..........
So, we all think boats are too expensive.
Government says to all boat manufacturers, you must build a 21 footer with a 250, two 10" screens, two big stick things at the back, on a good trailer that will do 80mph. You must sell this to the public for $20,000.

Oil is our past, present and dominates our near future. It needs to be made where we maximize our resources until the day comes we can ween off of it with a smooth replacement. What is going on now is the exact opposite of how it needs to be done.
The country is too broke to want the price to come down. If the oil companies are making billions in profit with these high prices, think of what the federal government is making in taxes off of their profits. If the price of gas goes down the oil company's profit goes down, then the federal goverment is losing money. The government doesn't want to lose that money, they might have to cut out some social welfare program or some other wasteful spending program. Until we have our debt under control why would the federal government have any incentive to do something about gas prices ?
