    evinrude 200hp Idle issues Please help

    Hello, I am idleing in nuetrel around 900 RPM but when I shift into gear i drop to 500 or below and usually stall out. Is this rormal (500 in gear)? I was going to adjust my idle but then again it is fine untill i shift into gear. What should i do??

    900 - 950 in neutral, in the water, should be OK. When you drop it in gear it usually drops about 200 rpm. If we're losing 400, something isn't right. You might want to think about a good decarb job. Especially if your top rpms are 5500 or less.

    Then make sure you're using fresh 87 octane (as long as the motor is stock, as produced) and Champion plugs. If the boat has been sitting it might not hurt to clean the carbs. Also look at the shift switch interrupter and make sure it's adjusted correctly.

    The good news is -- your motor isn't a 91. It's a 92.

    There is a shift interupter switch on the stb. side connected to the shift lever at the cable connection. Perhaps due to cable midadjustment, stiff shift linkage, tight shift rod orings, etc. it is activating and cutting out 3 cylinders, thus making a super slow idle.

    If so, that would explain why it takes 20 sec or so to plane.

    if it is the switch you can put it back into neutral and rev the engine ( only in the water ont on muffs) this may help in getting the other 3 to fire. I know I had that same problem and it was the switch and pin holes also in the vro. both you can do your self especailly if you have the PROPER repair manual like the one from Ken cooks site.
