Is it normal for a 115 etec to have what sounds like a miss or a lope every once and a while when idling on a flush? It never stalls or wants to kill, just lopes a bit. Just wondering if it should be silky smooth or not.
Thanks

The 115's idle very smoothly. See your dealer as there is an updated MAP for the engine that may help.

Seahorse,
What's a MAP? Is it basically a software update for the ECM? Did they write the updated MAP specifically for idle problems? I guess this is something any etec dealer can do in a few minutes or so.
Thanks,
Jared
the MAP is a set of software "instructions" for the engine's computer. It only takes about 15 minutes to install, and is covered by warranty. If your dealer is not responsive, call customer service.

Thanks Seahorse. I'll try to get it over to a dealer soon. Did they write that updated MAP for a specific reason? Is there any harm that can be done if i run it before I have time to take it to the dealer? I do want to clarify that when it's in the water you really don't even notice anything, just when it's hooked up to muffs and running out of the water where you can actually hear it. I may be overracting to what's actually normal.
Can you go online to Evinrude and see when there are MAP updates published (kind of like a recall or a technical service bulletin), or do they wait for you to figure out things on your own? Seems to me like they'd want to get everyone aware of the latest and greatest software.
Thanks again, you've been extremely helpful.
Jared
Hi Seahorse. You advised me a while back about the map update.I have phoned every dealer in Alberta to get it done and ZERO dealers will help me out without leaving the boat for up to 3 weeks. When I called BRP I was offered no help other than "we advise you to get the update at your earliest convenience"
We are going to Vancouver Island in July and the first 3 dealers I called over there said to bring it on in ANY day at 8 AM and they would do it.While I'm there I am loading up on XD-100,spare prop and whatever else I can think of rather than spend one more cent at these bogus dealers here.
There is a large discrepency in the quality of dealers out there and all you guys on this board are certainly at the top of the heap!
Thanks for the kind words, but dealers are no different than plumbers, lawyers, politicians, doctors, banks, convenience stores, etc. Some are lackadasical and some are top notch.

I got thirty minutes to spare if you can get it to Houston, I'll even stay late! Man I just can't believe the dealer can't spare the time to get paid warranty.![]()
Hey rudetech-maybe you should bring your laptop up here this winter.I could put you onto some 15-20 lb. Rainbow and Bull Trout in exchange for some service.
It's only 2500 miles and you said you wanted to come up here to escape that heat! You can fish, snow ski or drink rum in natural hot springs.......![]()

Found a crack in the mount for my water separator that was letting gas out and air in. Drained the gas from the filter, replaced the mount, hooked it up, and it idled better. Talked to the BRP tech line, and they told me that a little hiccup every once in a while on the flush is normal because of the lack of proper backpressure. They said that it a charachteristic of all EFI engines. The tech line didn't know anything about a MAP update, but I'm going to bring it to the dealer when I get around to it. I don't really notice it when I'm in the water. Anyway, ran a lot better once the air leak was fixed.
The gas in the separator was a dark gold color, darker than normal fresh gas, so I dumped it out reprimed. I wonder if it had some water in it.
Gonna probably go fishing today. If I swap props from a 13 7/8 x 19 to a 13 x 17, i'll probably pick up too many RPM's (about 600 since it's 200 for every inch pitch and 200 for every inch in diameter). I'm turning about 5500 with the bigger prop right now.
