2009 Yamaha 250 hpdi fouling plugs

I just purchased a 2009 Stratos 201 EVO with a Yamaha 250 HPDI. I have put 20 hours on the motor and have fouled the second set of plug(s) today. Anyone else experiencing this problem and if so what was the problem . I am using Ring Free, Non Ethanol gas and Yamaha Lube oil. Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated.

I would change to Amsoil or something along those lines. I would also have the oil pump linkage checked you may be burning to much oil.
.If that does not correct problem you may want to go to a hotter plug.

I would bet on the oil pump linkage
When i was breaking in my motor it used a lot of oil and fouled the plugs

When i took it in for 10hr check up they must have adjusted oil pump because now it uses less oil and has not fouled the plugs again

Re: 2009 Yamaha 250 hpdi fouling plugs (stratoveros)

I took my sick 250 HPDI in today with a grand total of 21 hours on it for a plug fouling/missing issue. Dealer checked and reset all oil linkages and changed lower unit lube. Fished Friday 12/24/10 and guess what still have missing issue!! So I guess this week I will looking to trade my Stratos 201 Evo with a sick a___ Yamaha for something with a real motor called MERCURY! I have never owned a Yamaha and always looked at them as very quality product only to be totally disappointed in my 250 HPDI. I have owned 16 bass boats in my fishing career all with Mercs and have never had a problem so I guess this why I am frustrated.

This sounds like a flooding injectors. Check how many are fouling by reading the plugs and insist they be replaced or adjusted by Brucato. I would be frustrated too but I can tell you that Yamaha doesn’t make their own injectors. Hpdi injector is made be Mitsubishi and we have flow tested new injectors that were way off specifications. Merc Opti injectors are even worse so I wouldn’t go that route if I were you.

I feel your pain and have done the same thing. I went from a 300 HPDI to a 300XS and love the difference. I use less oil and fuel! It was a motor change not boat!!!

The HPDI's are a hit or miss with a lot of misses. Pretty much why they are dropping them and going with the sho.

You may want to talk a look a a SHO over the mercury.

    JMHO!

Re: 2009 Yamaha 250 hpdi fouling plugs (spider1)

Mine did that and the dealer adjusted the oil intake and it was fine - by the way , we have had two Sho's to tear up - one with 200 hours on it and one with 80 hours on it in this small town - several have had no problems though - so they are all man made and they can all be fixed

200 hours on a SHO?.. Man, that is a lot of hours in less than a year...
