    OX66 choke

Sunday when I had my little overheat issue, I also noticed my electric choke was inop. I only posted on the overheat, thinking "only one thing at a time." lol

The motor starts fine without choking, but I want to fix it. And as it's not time critical, and not imperative to normal operation, I've got the time to look at it myself.

So looking at the wiring diargram...I'm a bit lost. I'm a helicopter mechanic by trade and work on turbines for a living, but I'm not a marine engine guy, or even really a piston engine guy. Where do I start to look for this? I pulled the switch to check wiring connections and look for corrosion, but it's a sealed unit. Has anyone had similar issues with the ignition/choke switch going bad over winter? (Again, stored in a heated garage.)

So moving on from the switch to the other end, I get to thinking, "how do you choke a fuel injected engine?" When you hit choke, and hear it on the engine "choking" what's actually moving and activating? I looked on the wiring diagram, and don't see any kind of choke relay or anything to that effect. Where do I look? Can someone point me in the right direction?

To the best of my knowledge there is no choke for the Ox66. When i had mine it would start right up whenever needed.Yamaha must use the same throtle body for fuel inj and carb models but i'm just not sure about that part of it.

    Re: OX66 choke (JOHN202)

Dude, am I dreaming? Am I thinking of my Dad's Lund? You've got me thinking now that I may have just embarrassed myself by asking this question. I fish my Dad's old Lund all the time when I go to visit, and after not having been in a boat for almost five months, when I went to start my engine on Sunday, I just instinctively push the key in to choke it....is there no friggin choke on there? I was stumped on how to choke a fuel injected motor. Maybe that's why....

This boat is new to me, only having bought it last July and it's my first boat with a ECU, and not just an old fashioned carb, so I still consider myself as getting to know it...so bear with me. Is there no choke on that damn thing, and I'm still used to fishing my Dad's Lund with a 50 Merc on it?

Yeah, I know I'm an idiot. I spend so much time in Dad's old carbed Lund, I just expect to hear the "click" and Sunday when I hadn't, it sounded weird, and I added that to my list of "to do."

But it starts just fine....I guess it should....it doesn't have a choke!

Disregard...it's been a long night and I've still got a few hours to go....

Man, don't feel bad! I know there isn't a choke on mine, but when it's cold, I always push in on the key. I think it's from my days having carbed engines also.

    Re: OX66 choke (BuzzB8)

Thanks Jerry. That's what happened here. Sunday I went to push in my choke, and didn't hear the click, but it started and I made a mental note, "fix the choke." Monday I went to try to run it again, and once again, "dah, the choke's not working" was my thought. But that's from 20 years of running carbed motors.

Then you know what they say about the power of an idea.....the idea of it being choked, and it not working stuck in my head and I started looking from there. Like I said, I wondered how you choke fuel injection, but I kept looking at the wiring diagram and kept not finding it....and it went from there, all the way to here where I look like a clown that couldn't wrench his way out of a paper bag....

Honestly, I am a mechanic! Just not an outboard guy by trade.

We don't have chokes on these either! lol They're what I work on-

All ya need is a left handed screwdriver to work on that thing. Any simpleton could do this.

I'd recognize the USCG H-65 anywhere. Glad to see the LTS-101 trash is finally gone. I was a 65 flight mech and AE at Airsta Miami from 91-97.

    Re: OX66 choke (slapshot)

Very cool. I came in in 98. I'm an AMT, which if you don't know, is half AD, half AM, with a little AE thrown in...very little. I remember when they wouldn't let us nose pickers do Q transducers any more, as they became tweet territory. But yeah, the LTS is long gone, and good riddance. The Turbomeca is awesome and the power is night and day. No more Q splits!!!!!!
