    150 VMAX Lower Unit

The caviataion plate on my lower unit has a chunck missing out of the side of it. It still wroks just fine but I want to just go ahead and replace the LU so I dont have to worry about it. Is it hard to swap the lower unit could I do it or do I need to just take it to a shop and call it done....

You can do it if you have any mechanical ability. Make sure you get one for a 150 because the gear ratio is different in the 175-200.

Re: 150 VMAX Lower Unit (rangerjason)

I had a couple of big chunks taken out of my anticavitation plate a couple of years ago. I was able to have it repaired for a small fraction of what a new lower unit would cost and it looked brand-spanking new. Of course, I've dinged up the skeg a couple of times but other than that, it still looks great. I'd check with some of the local shops that do skeg repairs before I'd shell out the bucks for a new lower unit.
