Has anyone replaced a remote control box? Can a guy do it himself? I have a 1990 Yamaha Pro V 150 with the 703 Remote Control Box. Thanks

what are you trying to do?
If you know how to use a screwdriver, and a wrench you should be able to do it. A 703 box is just a side mount so you don't have to mount anything blind. The only thing that takes alittle effort is adjusting the ends so you'r shift and throttle is in sync, but if you'r alittle mechanical you shouldn't have any problems.
Thanks for the input. What about the wiring? I was told it is difficult to remove the old cables form the boat and replace with new ones. The mechanic said what he would is use the old cable and hook to the new control box. Sounds like alot of electrical work? Any thoughts on this?
If the boat is equiped with a yamaha harness already then all you have to is plug the wiring harness into the controll box. If not the I would just run the wiring harness that came with the controlls. If you already have yamaha gear then all you do to hook up to the existing cables and wiring harness is plug them into each other, not too hard at all. If you need to run the cables and wiring harness then just zip tie or tape the eds of the old stuff to the new and pull it through not too hard either. I had to run new cables and wiring harness with no cables to hook to I ran a stiff garden hose with the end cut off and zip tied my new cables and wiring to it and pulled it through, took about 15-20 min. I'm by no means a boat mechanic but I am good with tools and had no trouble mounting a Yamaha 6xo shifter.
Thanks, I was thinking everything might be zip tied together inside the boat. I need t go out in the barn and look at the cables. Are there cables that run to the console? I would think so.
Should be 4 wires. Red +12V
Green- Tach feed
Yellow Ignition +12V
Black Ground
Then your trim wires Sky Blue, Light green, & Red
I think thats all, other than your 10 pin harness between control and engine
