It's strange how on the bigger motors the weight is pretty close comparing 2 vs 4 stroke but on the smaller motors 115 and lower there is a larger difference.

If the 2 stroke 115 was available as an HPDI, I'm sure it would be within a few pounds of the F115.

Just a guess but who do you buy the fuel from? We did tests in 96' of multiple gas stations while I was a mechanic. The additives and alchol is drasticaly different from week to week. Also found alot of water from one station in particular.
I cases like this there is a common fault and I'm wouldnt be so quit to put down yamaha. The HPDI has been around since 93-94' and have had a s good of reliability to any other engine.
Not trying to flame.
I agree with the opinion that the 3.3L HPDI motor has some major flaws, which appear to lead to power head failures. I have owned at least 20 large HP 2 stroke motors (other brands) over the past 30 years of bass fishing, and never blew a power head until I got my 2006 200 HPDI. Since then, it has spent more time in the shop than any other motor I have owned.
I have maintained this motor by the book (Yamalube, ring free etc.) yet it let me down. For one, Yamaha knew about the oil pump issue (which apperently caused my failure), yet I had to experience the failure to get it fixed. I've heard people praise Yamaha quality and durability, but it seems the 3.3L has problems- perhaps the Series 2 will be better. I would gladly trade this motor for any of my previous ones. I definitely will have to buy the full YES extended warranty in order to keep (or sell) this motor. Not whining, just being honest.

Maybe they should call that motor the "Y.E.S SERIES 2"![]()
