VMAX Series 2 Cold Start Problem HELP!!!!!!!! (please)

I just got my 250 VMAX Series 2. At the dealer he started it on a hose to run
it for the first 10 minutes of break-in time. However, It would not develop any
pressure so he put it in his tank / pit. It seemed to run fine when he rev'd it
up. But, this was probably 4 to 5 minutes after the engine had been cranked on
    the hose.

I took it to the lake for the 3rd time this afternoon to put some more time on
the engine. As of now, I have about 4.5 hrs of runtime on it. But each of the
3 times I put in at the ramp when I initially start the engine, it starts immediatley.
But it is like it is flooding. If you try to give it some gas with the hot foot it
dies (flooded). However, you can put it in reverse and it will not die. I am
told that the series 2 engines only fire on 4 of the 6 cylinders when idling.
But I would have thought that when the engine is cold that yamaha would
have made provisions for it to at least idle w/o bogging down when starting
    cold.

Can anyone share any experience with the Series 2 ??????

My ox66 does the same if you don't warm it up.

You should be taking atleast 5 minutes to warm it up before reving it up and running, IMHO. Thogh not always the easiest thing to do at a busy ramp. My dealer made a big deal about proper warm up, said it hurts a motor to not warm it up properly. Also make sure the primer bulb is staying firm, I know mine has the tendency to bog and sometimes die If I forget to pump the bulb up (though I don' suspect that's really you issue)

I'e always had the impression the HPDI motors are coldblooded and need their warm up time. Maybe a bit to do with a lean tune at ldel.

It will not rev up in neutral , because it is only running on 4 cyl..... , all of the hpdi motors are this way.

Yep. All HPDI's switch to 4 cylinders when in neutral. If you mash the gas, it spits and sputters. Put it in gear and all cylinders fire.

But, it should not die if you have it in neutral and press the gas some. It should just spit and sputter. If you floored it trying to make it rev up, it may die.

They are just like a fule injected car, should not have to hit the gas at all while in neutral or prior to tunring the key. The computer controls the fuel flow for them.

Re: VMAX Series 2 Cold Start Problem HELP!!!!!!!! (JeremyL)

Mine did the same thing a couple of weeks ago and I first I thought there was a problem. But it was just that the landing that I was using was too steep and it was not getting enough gas. The next time I used this landing I let the boat float off the trailer before I started it up so the boat was more level when I cranked it. This solved the problem. I think it had something to do with the the boat being at a steep angle. Is the landing you using very steep? If it is, I'll bet that is the problem. Test it by letting the boat float off the trailer a little. This way the boat will be more level when you crank it.

Make sure your exhaust is above the water when starting. Just makes it easier to start. (less back pressure)
