Any engine running wide open will eat the fuel. The DI engines will save you fuel as long as you don't run WOT. It takes fuel to create big horsepower.
Edit: Nevermind my link didn't help....

I get around 2 mpg on my 225 OX66. I cruise around 3600 rpm. Yes, if you run wide open alot, it will drink some gas. If you don't run it too hard and keep it tuned up, they aren't too bad for a 2 stroke.
I had thought of upgrading to an F250. But I would never recoup the money I'd invest in the motor. I wouldn't save enough gas and wouldn't even get it all back at resale.
Overall, I'm happy with the OX66. They have very good power, they are very reliable, and parts are easily found if needed. Just keep the spark plugs newer and clean the O2 sensor once or twice a year and they will run good.
They are not a good choice if you troll alot. They can foul the plugs and O2 sensor if they are run at trolling speeds alot. They also will run a bit rough at trolling speed. The motor runs on 4 of the 6 cylinders under a certain engine rpm.
