    Rusty - 75 Etec help

My buddy has a 75 etec on an 1860 SeaArk. Runs great but this no oil warning is really getting old.

    Model # E75DPLSOR
    Serial # 05110224
    Purchased in February 2005

    1) We had a dealer switch to the XD-100 and had the motor set accordingly due to no oil warnings each morning. Even after its been run about 4 times and probably burned 8-10 gallons of gas its still doing it every morning at least 3-5 times. They did not drain the entire oil system but tried to get all the old oil out before adding the xd-100. Seems like the old oil should be through the system by now. I think you or someone mentioned he made need a software update. What do you think? What does that do?

    2) He should have gotten the extra warranty but I don't think the dealer knew what they were doing. Is there a way to check on that?

    3) They gave him a stainless Rapture propr 13.25x17. He can only turn around 5000 rpms w/ 2 people and gear. What rpms should he be running and what prop would you recommend. Not looking to spenda ton to get 1 extra mph just a good prop to run a good rpm. Hoelshot is good even now.

    Thanks.

Re: Rusty - 75 Etec help (palmettores)

    1. Make sure you have the XD-100 "Extreme Formula" - there will be a gold-colored oval EXTREME logo on the label. This formula has a lower viscosity than older XD-100. The older oil is still good stuff, just save it for the warmer weather.

    2. Make sure the dealer has set the EMM to XD-100 oil mode - This IS a MUST!

    3. What software revision is currently loaded in the EMM? There is a software revision on the dealer-only web site, it is revision #88690 and was posted Jan 27th, 2006. The warranty registration system shows the engine was built last March, so it very likely will benefit from this new software. Also, your buddy's is not registered yet, that should be done to activate warranty.

    4. If the dealer has any questions, he should call the Evinrude Technical Service Department.

    Hope this helps,

    -John

Re: Rusty - 75 Etec help (John from IL)

    1) We'll look for the "extreme" oil.

    2) It is set to xd-100

    3) Don;t know what software is in there but the Jan. 06 is definitely not it. Should this help with the no oil alarm?

    4) What does that mean not registerd yet? Is there a form to fill out? The dealer should have completed that paperwork correct? Is there a way to check and see if they filed the paperwork for the extended warranty that was being offered.?

Re: Rusty - 75 Etec help (palmettores)

I only ran mine a couple of times last year when the temps were in the low forties and upper thirties but had no probs. bought the motor about this time last year. Ran the old XD-100 also. Motor did get software upgrade when I had it switched to the XD-100 setting (had been running the 100 anyway) in July according the to mechanic.
