What can you all tel me about a 1973 Johnson 65HP model # 65ESLR73

I looked the numbers up to find out what year it was. I'm assuming that the L stands for long shaft? The motor was suppose to have been rebuilt about 3 years ago and I have ridden on the boat two summers ago and it ran pretty good but it has been in storage for the last two years. I plan to rebuild the carbs, replace the impeller, plugs and what ever else you all think need replacing. Is there anything I might need to know about this engine? Any advice for a me for an engine that has sit for two years? Also, do you think this engine will make a 14' fiberglass bassboat move pretty well? I would appreciate any feedback.

I cant get any info on motors older than 1996 but I can tell you that the information you posted is correct.

Sounds like you are covering the things that need to be covered on a motor that has set for two years.

The three cylinder Johnson 60, 65, 70HP were very good engines and were very spunky little engines. You will be happy with its performance. Been there done that.
