Engine Hours?

I've had my F150 for a little over 3-1/2 years. I just scanned the ecm last week and found it has 139 hours of operation. Someone told me that the number of hours was over the norm. I am now curious what other BBCer's have on their Yamaha outboards. So far, my F150 has not had any trouble.

Sounds low to me. I bought my rig last year in July and I have about 40 hrs on it in 10 months. This includes several months of cold weather and spring rain and storms that has kept me from fishing.

Dealer told me one time 100 hrs a season was the norm.

139 hrs in 3 1/2 years isn't over the norm at all.

I know some charter boats down here who have 500+ hrs on 3 yr motors.

    I had 117 hrs on my 225 in 2 1/2 years.

I just purchased a 2003 boat with a 225 HPDI and it had 30 hours on it. When I brought it in to have it looked over the mechanic told me it was practically new. I am guessing the hours you have are right in line and it is not over used.

    Re: Engine Hours? (fishin couillon)

I decided when I bought this boat I wasn't going to worry about how many hours I put on it. In fact the more the better, I have yet to sell anything with a motor on it that I wore out first.

    Re: Engine Hours? (abu-guru)

commercial usage is more like 100 hours a month...

normal recreational usage is 50-100 hours a year where I am, < 50 is light > 100 sustained average is actually pretty hard to do.

    Re: Engine Hours? (PSM207)

We have a set of 2005 F150's on a Contender 23T at work. Those motor have 1490 hours of law enforcement use on them. One of them had a new powerhead installed under warranty after some gear failure. We normally trade them in around 1500 hrs, but we are going to run these to 2000 or so as long as they keep running strong.
We also have several F250's. One set has 600, another has 800, anf the third has 400...all in the past year or so.

I think we will start keeping motors longer since Yamaha extended the government warrany to 3 years this model year. Heck in 3 years, some of our motors could be pushing 3500 hrs+.

On my personal 225 OX66, I have 145 on it. I bought it last April with 70 hrs. I normally run about 80-100 hrs per year.

    Re: Engine Hours? (slapshot)

I was really surprised to see the moderate operating temps of this engine. Heat surely isn't much of an issue. I believe the individual who thought my hours were over the norm, misunderstood the number of years on the engine. The majority of hours are at trolling speed (1000 rpm or less) and at cruise (3000 - 4000 rpm). One heck of an engine.
