How to check fluid level in Tilt/Trim ?

Have an 02' 200EFI. Going up is slow and not very smooth and sounds "scratchy". Going down is smooth and quiet. Not sure whats up but thought i'd start with fluid level. Dont see any leaks. Battery is OK. Not sure how to check or what type fluid to use if low! Appreciate any help! Thanks, VIC

Sometimes this occurs because the tips of the push rods are 'dry' and make a racket when pushing the motor up. If you haven't already tried this, smear a small amount of waterproof grease on the tips of the rods and the contact points on the motor.

You may have to grease the rods every month or so depending on how much you use it. Also, a good time to do it is when you add grease to the various fittings on the motor and any time you grease the trailer wheels.

This is just a quick and dirty fix. Just to be safe, check the fluid level (once somebody tells you how to).

According to my service manual (on the same motor) tilt the motor all the way up, support the motor with the tilt stop lever on the side on the motor, then you can open up the res. and check the level, which should be right at the bottom on the hole, if it's correct a little fluid should want to flow out of the opening.

Thanks guys! Checked the fluid level. A little ran out like you said. So that must be okay! Have always done the grease thing to the tips of the rod. But did put some fresh grease on them and it is a bit quieter. Still seems slow coming up though. Probably just me overreacting! Thanks again, VIC

How cold is it there? My 250 EFI does the same thing when it is this cold. It has been 35 or below for the last few weeks..
