    Thermostat question for Don

Don, I have a 98 Mariner EFI. As you know the cooling system is thermostatically controlled. I hate the fact that I am always nervous when the motor is running and the t-stats are closed that motor could overheat and maybe crack a block. Would it do any damage to remove the t-stats completely so that I have constant pee of water and therefore a good way to determine if the water pump is working?

    thanks

Not Don but your motor won't get to proper operating temprature and it will cause running issues....

+1.... DO NOT remove the thermostats. Doing so will prevent your engine from reaching proper operating temperature, and potentially cause a higher risk of powerhead failure due to "cold seizure".

Additionally.... as your engine was designed, it's actually pretty nice to be able to WATCH for the telltale to start. When it does, you KNOW the thermostats are opening, and the engine is at (or near) proper operating temperature.
