    2004 150 xr6

Hey Don, Found some of the deteriated fuel line in my in-line flter. Im replacing all lines you suggested. My question is if I pull the front plate off of the fuel pump, would I be able to see if that crap is in it? And if I did pull it off, would I have to replace with all new gaskets or could I just put the cover back on and all be good? Sorry if this sounds dumb, I never have messed with a fuel pump. Thanks!

Sorry bout saying fuel pump Don! Im talking about the square box with the fuel line going in and the fuel line going out to the filter. Its got four screws. If I was to pull that front plate.

    That's the fuel pump.

Go ahead and rebuild the pump as recommended with a Part# 857005A1 kit.

Even if you remove the debris.... you've likely got some damage to the check valves.... and the diaphrams are likely hardened.

I had the same issue with my XR6...ordered the parts from Don and replaced the fuel lines and rebuilt the fuel pulse pump as Don has suggested to many. I had the classic lines deteriorating and pieces in the pulse pump. It was easy to do as the kit comes with detailed directions.

Easy Job, even a caveman could do it I did mine after a Merc Mechanic screwed it up Just follow the easy instructions. Make sure the tabs line up (you will see what I am taking about)...make sure the gasket on the back stays on the studs. About a 30 min job from start to finish...including removal and installation

One more question for ya all. Could some of that crap made it past the filter and went in the carbs? Motor runs fine but just checkin.

Not impossible..... but addressing the "recommended" items will solve the problem in 90%+ of cases I've seen.

The filter does a pretty good job of trapping what passes through the fuel pump.
