I see the part is only 23 bucks and if i can remember right the last time i got this replaced it cost me 150.00. Is this something i can do from home or should i have a pro do it?

Pretty straightforward with a little mechanical aptitude and common tools. See

Personally, I like to put it in forward gear before I start, and am careful not to change at the lower unit as I work. I'm sure you know, but don't shift with the prop stationary - have someone turn it while you shift. When I put the LU back on, I find this a convenient way to line everything up - I can wiggle the prop with one hand if needed to mesh driveshaft into the block.
Torque everything as specified. And just to be thorough, check and test the thermostats while you're at it. You'll need new gaskets & throroughly remove all the old gasket material.
So many honey-dos . . . . . so little motivation
Not hard, easier with a buddy. I bought the kit from Mr. Don @ European Marine and installed myself. After having some issues trying to hold the LU up and trying at align the shift rod, I finally had to ask my wife to come help. Other than that it was not hard at all.

+1 ... not that difficult.
However... you need the IMPELLER AND GASKETS (at a MINIMUM)... or better yet, a COMPLETE water pump kit.
Would have provided part numbers.... if we knew what engine you have.![]()

Thats rite, not hard at all but would get a buddy to help. Just dont turn the shaft when you are changing it out.
