Fishing cool water - upper forties. What should I be seeing on my smartcraft gauge for running temp. I saw today that after idling out of a cove for several minutes, the temp was around 120, but when running up the river, the temp dropped to 98 and then was slowly coming up. I am not sure what it would stabilize at on a longer run.
Thermostats are only functional at LOW RPM's (essentially, at idle).
As the RPM's increase (by approximately 2000 RPM's), the Poppet Valve opens, allowing a FULL FLOW of water through the block. Hence, on plane temps will vary immensely (based on several factors, including load, RPM's, and LAKE WATER TEMP).
