Patrick, once you install the Merc monitor and power it up, it should read the hours currently stored in your ECU. Should not have to calibrate anything.

+1... engine hours are stored in the Engine's PCM or ECM, and CANNOT be altered (with the exception of ECM/PCM replacement).
Correct (actual) hours will automatically be displayed.![]()

One more question how accurate is the fuel used without it hooked up to the fuel tank?
I've tested fuel used shown on the SmartCraft against how much it takes to refill the tank. Very close. It doesn't operate off the fuel tank, but off engine consumption. The computer calculated, knowing how much fuel is in each injection (or maybe each thousand injections) and number of engine revs by rpm range.
The setup has a procedure to calibrate calculated fuel usage to approximate tank contents.
