I'd guess because it costs more than the Pro XS or the XS and also weighs more so it attains a lower top end speed on a performance hull? Most Wallye boats are not top end performance hulls.
If the Verado Pro 250 would weigh less and give a higher topend than the Pro XS, XS or SHO it would outsell them all in a heart beat even if it cost more![]()

We see a few of the Verado engines on Bass Rigs.... most all of our customers that are running them have been VERY pleased overall.
The 250 Pro Verado has only been out about a year...

How different is the Pro Verado vs the regular? I guess the reason I am askin is i had a buddy who had one on a z22 then went to a z521 with Opti now goin back to pro Verado....says no comparison between the two othwr than the Opti is a bit 2 mph faster...so he would rather have the quietness and power steering.

Fred ran that same motor last year as well and Mercury used him in several adds to promote it. Fred's a good dude![]()

The 250Pro includes improvements that result in better propshaft horsepower, with actual propshaft horsepower "roughly" in line with the Optimax ProXS series (within 5 PSH of the Optimax ProXS).
Stronger output is achieved (on the Pro Verado series) when running higher octane fuel on this model (though it will run on 87 octane very well). Peak performance is achieved with 91+ octane.

Thank you Don....would you buy one?
I bought one of the standard 250's back in 2004 when they first came out. And I would buy it again. It has been a great motor but there is a learning curve.
I think the reason it isn't that popular with the bass guys is Mercury tried to make it a big game changer not just another motor you bolt on. It has built in set back so the hydro plate was out and I could only get it with a 3 inch manual. Then the trim works differently so you couldn't at the time get trim on the wheel (if this is now available let me know). Then there is the DTS system, I see you are in Ontario, if you see my Basscat/Verado stop by and take a look at my $1000 dollar hot foot.
Back when I first got mine, there were also only 3 Verado certified techs in the country that had the computer equipment to work on the motor and one is in BC. If you buy one and need work Xtreme Marine has been my place to go, they are not far from you so you lucked out. Last time I was in there they had a new 250 Verado XS one on the rack waiting on one of the pros boats to come in and get rigged. It was late in the summer so it may still be there if you wanted to look at it.

how are they on fuel economy? I know the first models 04 05 were terrible on fuel.
The later ones (Gen-2) are a lot better on fuel.
If you back off WOT about 500-750 RPM's, they do VERY well. However.... being a Supercharged engine- at WOT (when you're stuffing pressure greater than ONE ATMOSPHERE "down it's throat")- more fuel is consumed (gotta provide the extra fuel to match all that additional air pressure).![]()
