Without breaking the bank on a carbon fiber tripod any suggestions for a good tripod for hiking....think light weight? I currently have a Manfrotto 3405, unfortunately the head ( #390 ) isn't removable. I believe that is the draw back to this model....has anyone ever cut the head off and placed a ball type on the centerpost and be secure?? I like the twist lock legs that I have now as they are easier to stow in the pack vs the cam or knob style locks. Suggestions???

Benro Travel Angel. It's a great tripod and sturdy. I bought one for Colorado last year and then replaced it with an RRS TVC-33 for the new gear. I may sell you mine actually if you like it after the research.

Sgt, what model do you have 068 or 069? and what head?
If remember correctly, Steve has a 268 with a B1 head.
I have a carbon fiber 168 with a B0, and you just can't beat them for going light....
