    Check Engine Alarm

I have had a long time problem with my "check engine alarm" going off after extensive slow speed running on my 1993 Evinrude 150. My machanic has said that it indicates a fuel restriction, but should be going off at high speed. I hooked up a seperate fuel tank saturday and ran at slow speed for over 2.5 hours and had no alarm. This is much longer than it usually takes for the alarm. I am running this on a 1996 Stratos 285 Pro DC. Any ideas on where to look next? It seems it might be in the fuel system before it gets to the motor.

    Thanks,

    CP

You'll need to get the motor up over 2k for the alarm to kick in. It could be the vacuum switch on the fuel delivery side of the motor. A model # would sure be nice.

    Which alarm are you getting?

    Solid horn or intermittent?

I will get my engine serial number at noon. I believe the alarm is the solid horn, but do not remember. The light that comes on is the check engine light.

A 19993 motor did not come with the System Check warning lites. Did someone adapt a unit to your older motor?

System Check was introduced in 1996.

Yes, if you buy the factory adapter kit 176709 and the 4-lite gauge or the SystemCheck tach with 4-lites.
