New merc owner and a minor problem..........

    '08 250 Pro XS

It does it about 7 times out of 10.

Start motor, shift into gear and advance to full throttle. It goes to 2000 rpm's and no higher. Will not get on plane. Pull back to neutral and try again. Sometimes it jumps up on plane on 2nd try but most of the time it takes 4 tries before it does it.

I can run 5 minutes or 30 minutes, shut down, restart immed. and it will either do the same thing, or jump right on plane with no problems.

    Bad sensor somewhere?

It almost feels like a limiter or something but then it will do it with no problems at all. There are no beeps or anything else going on that I notice.

Midrange is fine as well as top end all the way to 76 gps.

    Thanks for any help.

Motor is under warranty but wanting to know what y'all think it might be?

I would recommend that you START by load testing your battery, and checking BATTERY CABLE CONNECTIONS. Engine cables MUST be installed FIRST, then "remaining lugs largest to smallest". Finish off the connection with a Stainless Locknut (DO NOT use WINGNUTS).

Low battery voltage is the #1 cause of this scenario.

Here's a post that outlines appropriate (and recommended) batteries for your application:

One further note: Do you hear a "test beep" from the warning buzzer when you first turn the key on? (You SHOULD)

Yes, beep is there as well as stainless locknuts and a new battery installed by dealer last week. Called dealer this morning and they said to bring it in and they would lake test it. I was just curious to see what you thought might be the cause.

    Thanks

Just a thought, this happened to me when I tried to run a cav ring on my trophy and almost no venting. It would bog down around 2k, and it was hot, on a power plant lake in September. Had to make several attempts to get on plane. Removed the cav ring and never had the problem again. So it could be that your not venting your prop enough. Hope this helps.

Be sure to have them put it on the Computer Diagnostic System, and have the Freeze Frame "Fault" History PRINTED OUT. I'll be glad to review the printout for you if you'd like..... one item we need to watch for is "Neutral Overspeed" faults (however- it's IMPERITIVE that the printout be available so the DATA LINES can be reviewed.... since there are multiple possible causes).
