    Cleaning VST

I am going to try and take the top off the VST today and check for any trash and was wondering if anyone has the instructions on how to do it. I opened the little drain on the bottom on both sides and got trash out of both sides but now I have got it all out of the front one and want to take the top off to verify I got all trash out. The motor is a 2005 Merc 225 Opti

There is SOME documentation in the Service Manual (highly recommend you obtain one.... VST components are VERY expensive).

Disassembly and reassembly is fairly straightforward. You may need a new gasket/seal for the top of the VST... and need to be very careful not to "bend" or "strike" the float, as it can alter the float setting.

    Re: Cleaning VST (EuropeanAM)

Thanks Don I got it all tore apart, cleaned, and put back together. I had fuel and water sit in my vst and it rusted the little fuel pump in there and that rust had fell off and was clogging the screen on the back of the pump. I guess if this doesnt fix it I will carry it to the dealer and have them pull the fuel rails and injectors.
